Hell’s bells
by Lisa Quigley
“A searingly fun debut from author Lisa Quigley, Hell's Bells is a rollicking tale of friendship, rock and roll, and the Devil that's also a love letter to all the outsiders and wonderful weirdos out there. Sweet and heartbreaking one moment, and horrifying and bold the next, you should put this one at the top of your reading list immediately.”
– Gwendolyn Kiste, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Rust Maidens and The Invention of Ghosts
“Sinful, cinematic, and (thank God) irreverent. Quigley reminds us that, if it comes down to denying your true nature in the name of Heaven, Hell might be worth looking into.”
– Josh Malerman, New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box and Malorie
“Some of the body horror imagery here belongs in the same vault with the works of David Cronenberg and Betty Rocksteady. Gnarly and the very definition of ‘fun.’ Hell's Bells is an excellent debut from Lisa Quigley, and now I'm convinced if I read the text backward I'd summon the devil, which this novella sorta makes me want to do.”
– Max Booth III, author of Touch the Night
“Ask a scary question, get a scary answer, and what question is scarier than ‘Why are we here?’ Lisa Quigley’s characters dare ask, and their earnest dialogue sings with obsession and determination. An electric, beautiful, grotesque subversion,Hell’s Bellspulls satanic panic inside-out by the guts to reveal the terrible power of God, the Devil, and teenage girls.”
– Hailey Piper, author of Benny Rose and the Cannibal King
all you need is love and a strong electric current
by Mackenzie Kiera
“Cold on the outside, burning with love at the center, this debut from Mackenzie Kiera is as good a time as it's possible to have on the page, with dead people. With sexy dead people.”
– Stephen Graham Jones, author of The Only Good Indians
“Mackenzie Kiera’s electrifying debut novella is laugh-out-loud funny, over-the-top gory, totally insane, and just what the doctor ordered to chill you for the summer and leave you begging for more.”
– Bob Pastorella, author of They’re Watching and co-host of This Is Horror
“Sadie Snow is the twisted lovechild of Patrick Bateman and Victor Frankenstein but sexier. Mackenzie Kiera’s All You Need is Love and a Strong Electric Current does not hold back. It’s sexy, extreme, unflinching, in your face, and hilarious. This will in equal-parts turn people’s stomachs and excite their Lady Elizabeths and King Henrys. So, go ahead. Read. Mackenzie Kiera will show you a good time and then she’ll make you bleed.”
– Michael David Wilson, author of The Girl in the Video and founder of This Is Horror
Lisa Quigley and Mackenzie Kiera are horror authors who met in grad school and found a near instantaneous soul and creative connection. They have a lot of the same interests, but this one especially: they like to talk about books. Though their reading lists often intersect, their taste in literature is just different enough to keep their conversations lively. As writing partners in crime, they critique each other's work, challenge each other to be better, share woes from the writing trenches, and oh yeah: they were bridesmaids in each other's weddings.
Ladies of the Fright podcast is their collaborative project.
Mackenzie and Lisa read, write, and breathe dark fiction of all kinds. One day, they figured that since they have conversations about this stuff on a regular basis, why not record them? Their primary mission is to be a invaluable resource for writers of dark fiction, but they also provide education and entertainment for librarians, creators, readers, and horror aficionados of all stripes.
